About Me

Hi, my name is Jess, aka The Num Num Mum.  I’m a Registered Holistic Nutritionist based in Guelph, Ontario. I decided to start this blog in order to share my love of all things food, nutrition, and health.  Here is a bit about myself:

I have had a lifelong interest in food and nutrition.  I grew up spending time in my Grandfather’s garden and at his cattle ranch where I developed a connection to food at a young age.  Combined with an interest in biology, this eventually led to an honours degree in Nutrition and Nutraceutical Sciences from the University of Guelph and a diploma from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition.  I’ve worked in the healthcare field for over 13 years. Four of those years have been spent as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist.  With an education from both a technical and holistic perspective, I merge modern science with traditional alternative approaches in my practice.  I am always researching and considering the most up to date findings; however, I appreciate that there are some things that are still beyond a scientific explanation.

In 2012, my husband and I welcomed a baby boy; our first. This opened my eyes to many new nutritional adventures and challenges.  These included making all of my son’s baby food and switching him to a dairy-free diet when he developed an asthmatic cough.  All of this has led to a focus on family and children’s nutrition.  I’m always on the look-out for healthy recipes the whole family will enjoy.  I truly take pride in knowing that I’m doing what I can to keep my family healthy and happy, and love sharing my experience and knowledge with others.
